Written in 2014, "The Black Sun" is a pivotal song on Rosko's upcoming studio album, "Songs of Longing." The upcoming version features springy, folk-brushes drums, horns and a thunderous chorus. For this live and uncut album, Rosko decided to do a stripped down rendition of this tune, which was favorably responded to at coffee shops and open mics throughout 2015.
Mics were setup on James' Djembe and Rosko's acoustic guitar and were recorded live, in one take. Rosko then overdubbed slide guitar, bass and vocals. There are subtle back-up vocals from the talented young singer Madeline Horrigan, who has been working with Rosko periodically.
lyrics
I don't want to lose again.
You are so damn akin
To the ways of the world.
Things haven't been the same,
Since you crept into my brain.
We gonna wait
Until the dawn arrives.
I picked you up and you held me down;
I kept you close and then we found.
I went into the Black Sun.
Diamonds played, like charades
And I just hope I don't fade out.
We gonna wait
Until the dawn arrives.
I picked you up and you held me down;
I kept you close and then we found.
